Occasionally, we are graced with the presence of an earth bound angel. They are unable to stay with us for long, but while they do, they bring unprecedented joy and happiness to all they touch. While they are here, we bask in their goodness and marvel at their contribution to the world. When they leave, we are left with the devastation that comes with losing such a wonderful being...but we must remember...the earth bound Angels are not ours to keep.
They are ours to enjoy, learn from, and behold until they are called back home.

My deepest thoughts are with all of you.

To Katies Mom & Dad and family,
I only met Katie briefly while interviewing her for acceptance into our college. That day and all of our interaction since told me all I would know of this young star taken much too soon. She was a sweet, compasionate young lady and a devoted daughter. I could tell that your family dymnamic is one which I rarely see. I am inspired by it. I recall Katie telling me of her decision to pursue English Education, and that it was a family decision, I knew you all researched and discussed the details. I hope you are comforted by your memories. I cannot imagine your grief at this time. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

To the Szpinalski Family:
My condolences go out to everyone affected by this tragedy. I will pray for everyone. I remember when Katie would come by my house and brought along Danny and Dillan. They all had so much fun and I will never forget it. Another time when Katie came by was to plan our spring break to Wisconsin Dells. I was calling in to make the reservations and Anna, Singa, and Katie wouldn't stop making me laugh. I will never forget Katie. I considered her as one of my best friends. R.I.P. Katie.

Dear Donna Szpinalski and Family,
Death isn't on any of our road maps; we don't know its coordinates, neither can we successfully plot it. Death is what punches holes in all of our maps. It is a force that can punch holes in our heart as well. Donna, just trust that if you have the fortitude to look through that hole punched in your heart by Katie's passing, you will see the face of God.
When we grieve, it is because we have loved someone deeply, but if we have loved deeply, then we are very lucky indeed. Katie's spirit will remain present with you. Without her your reach would not have been as high, nor your love as deep. Every person is a person of eternity, and not just a noble spirit of memory, and the reaches of eternity extend to this side of the grave as well as on the other.
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Your bodyguard of friends stands ready to comfort you in whatever way we can. Wishing you God's peace.

Dear Uncle Ed., Aunt Donna and family,
I am sorry I was not able to attend the wake and funeral. I would have loved to see you, unfortunately on an unhappy note. I want you to know that all my friends and I at Purdue are praying for you. It's hard to realize I will never get another instant message from Katie asking about boys. I'll miss her like crazy.
I miss you all and look forward to future Uncle Ed. cannonballs!
Much Love and condolences,

Donna: It was less than 2 weeks ago when we had a short conversation at your desk in which you gave me an update on how your children were doing. I must confess I can't recall exactly all the details but what I took away from our talk was the way you were absolutely beaming when describing them. It was evident the love you had for each. May that love keep your family strong.

February 23, 2005
Dear Donna, this news and the circumstances are shocking. It reveals how precious life is and the time we share together as family and friends. The most comforting thing I've found is God's hope of a resurrection of all those asleep in death. The safest place to be is in God's memory. Jesus performed this miracle when he was on earth and he will do it again at God's appointed time. He promises at John 5:28-29 (All those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice & come out...to a resurrection.) Faithful men of old like Job had this hope firmly in mind and we should draw comfort from it too especially at these times of extreme heartache. Our Creator does indeed feel the depth of our pain and beseeches us to throw our burdens on Him to help and strengthen us. True to his promise, he will soon thrust out his hand to undo the effects of sin and death. (Revelations 21:3-4) We have no greater promise or hope than what he offers, so we should cling to it with all our hearts and rely on each other to endure through these tragedies. Your family will certainly be in my prayers.

To the Szpinalski family; I can't imagine what you are going through but I'm praying for you guys. My deepest regards to your whole family from mine. Katie was one of the funniest people I've ever come across. She always knew how to bring a smile to someones face no matter how she felt. Katie befriended me freshman year and ever since then I've looked up to her for being an amazingly kind person. I've only had a few classes with her but so many memories of her smile. She's in our hearts forever and I know she's next to God watching over us. We'll miss your presence Katie. Rest In Peace. <3

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

*To The Szpinalski Family I'm sorry for your loss. Katie was a great person. I will never forget Junior how she stepped up and helped our class raise money for prom. We are truly greatful for her leadership and for that she will be remembered. I remember over the summer when she came to the park she talked to me while i worked in the stand. She was very kind. I know I did not talk to Katie often but we worked together to get our class on the ball. Katie was a great person and not having her in English class will be difficult. RIP Katherine A. Szpinalski.
