Turro Family,
I have struggled this past week to come up with the right words to express my sympathy at Karl's passing. I am not sure if it has sunk in yet that I lost one of my closest high school friends, and way too soon at that. His wit and warmth will be missed as well as knowing that he was always there with a kind word to say. We were all blessed to have Karl as a part of our lives and I feel especially grateful that we became friends in high school and have remained in touch nearly 35 years after. I pray he is celebrating eternity with gusto!

Turro family and friends,
The services this past weekend were beautiful and offered a chance to remember Karl. It is hard to accept that such a warm, caring, and fun-loving friend and colleague is gone far too soon. It is no wonder he was so beloved in many diverse circles of friends and family. The fact he was able to bring his warmth and energy to each group is further testament to the wonderful individual that was Karl. His presence will be felt at Northwestern and beyond for many years to come. May he and his loved ones find peace.

March 23, 2015

I worked occasionally with Karl at Northwestern. He always had a smile and always remembered me, even though we didn't see each other often. He was such a positive presence. He will be missed.
My deepest sympathies to his family.

Today, I am remembering a kind, funny, bright, hard-working man that I was privileged to come to know through our mutual work in higher education, Karl Turro. It is clear from reading this guest book that many appreciated Karl for these wonderful qualities, among others. While I am sad at his passing, I am so much more grateful that I was one of the many friends that he made through his work and volunteer activities. Karl's life, while too short, was well-lived and meaningful to those with whom he came in contact. Rest well, friend.

I worked with Karl for eight years at Northwestern and have fond memories of walking down the hallway to his office to consult on procedures for a task. Since he was so busy and spent much of his time attending meetings I would look for the sunlight peeking through to know if his office door was open. Since his desk was not visible from the door I would call out, KT, to ascertain if he was present. The sound of his response, Marleen, would let me know it was okay to enter his office to seek and receive direction for the project at hand. Karl was very knowledgeable in the accounting field and was happy to share this knowledge. I greatly appreciated that along with his smiling face which made him very approachable. I no longer work at Northwestern but I shall miss stopping by Karl's office to say hello on my visits to Evanston. I shall miss KT very much. My sincere sympathies to his family for their great loss.

Karl and i worked together at Deloitte at the beginning of his career and later when he was my client. As auditors and accountants do, we worked many late nights together. Karl worked hard to do things the right way and did not cut corners. He was a pleasure to work with because of his integrity, respect for others and kind and humorous manner. My utmost sympathy to Karl's mother, brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.

My thoughts and prayers are with Karl's family. Karl has been on my mind so much this week. We met at a NACUBO APC meeting over a decade ago. He made me feel so welcome but he had a way of doing that. I will hold Karl's wisdom, humor, warmth, and smile close to my heart. I will miss my colleague and friend.

When I first heard that Karl was in the hospital and very sick, I thought This can't be true. He just gave a presentation a couple of weeks ago. My mind also went to the unpolished winter boots I noticed he was wearing when he stood up to chat with people after the meeting, and how I smiled to myself and wanted to go over and tease him about his business attire. Unfortunately, I didn't, and now I can't, and I still struggle to get my arms around that. Karl's passing has greatly affected many of us who worked with him. We will truly miss his gentle soul, and our hearts go out to his family and loved ones.

I worked with Carl on remodeling his home back in 03, we went through so many issues together but with great passion and care to the creative efforts of both our minds working together, the job turned out fantastic and he finally had what he wanted ,a great space for family or just a couple to enjoy. He was one of the most honorable men I have ever known.

Karl will be sadly missed. We spent our undergraduate years together at Notre Dame and lived in Alumni Hall (go dawgs!). Karl and I were both Resident Assistants our Senior Year, but I remember first meeting Karl during our freshman year when I walked into his dorm room with Joni Mitchell blaring on the stereo. Karl was an usher in my wedding in 1985 and although he had more hair then, his appearance hasn't changed. We last saw each other for a ND football weekend about 11-12 years ago.

Patti and are wish to offer our condolences to the entire Turro clan. He was a good man and a good friend. God bless Karl.
