My most sincere condolences to the Reid family on behalf of the Miller family. Judge Reid, you knew my father "in the bond" and as a friend for more than 50 years. I will never forget the last time I saw you and Mrs. Reid, at the University of Chicago BLSA event at the Museum of Science and Industry. Even then, you were handsome and charming. I always appreciated that whenever I saw you, you asked about dad and you asked about how I was doing. I remember our conversation about how excited you were about your new grandchild. I remember being in "work mode," setting up pictures of you and Montgomery and Judge Pincham and the law students. If I had known that was the last time I would see you, I would have taken a picture with you myself.

I'm so very proud to have had you as one of my treasured "Kappa godfathers." May you rest in peace. Sending prayers for comfort and healing to your entire family.

With love,

Rosalee Wright DiPasalegne

We’ve lost a great friend, neighbor, and raconteur. The city of Chicago has lost one of its giants and true gentlemen.

One of the great things about living in Beverly was having Ellis and Sheila as next door neighbors. When I walked to or from the train with Ellis, I would learn more than I would learn during the entire day (or month!) at work. Ellis’s practical approach tempered my more starry-eyed theory, and he gave me quite an education in very practical politics and economics. Working on his run for the Supreme Court was perhaps the most interesting, enjoyable, and enlightening experience I have had in politics.

I still remember many of the stories (many of which I’d best not relate!) Ellis shared with me as we discussed politics, and life, over the backyard fence. When I remember people like Ellis, I really miss the city.

Sheila, our hearts and prayers are with you. David, Ellis, Noelle, Betty, Virginia, and Harry, we will continue to pray for you and for the man you loved so much. He was so proud of his children, and so fond of his siblings.

God bless you all. We have been truly blessed to have known Ellis.

I worked with Judge Reid at the Daley Center , I remember him as a very kind man. I was 19 years old when I was his receptionist and he made coming to work enjoyable everyday. God Bless you and your family, he will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sheila, his wife, and his children and grandchildren. There is nothing that can be said to relieve the grief and pain his loved ones are experiencing. Just know that he is home, in the arms of our Father and that all is well with him.
