Winnie, June Elphinstone (Patton-

Bethune)

June Elphinstone (Patton-Bethune) Winnie, 92, of Wilmette, IL, passed away on March 13, 2024.

She was born to Douglas Howard Aubrey Claude Debonaire Patton-Bethune and Petrusa (Theron) Chiddy on January 9, 1932, in Morocco Africa. June grew up in the Elgin Valley of South Africa on the family's fruit farm, later attending college at the Johannesburg School of Nursing receiving a bachelor's degree in 1954 before coming to the United States in 1957.

She worked as a registered nurse at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL where she met her husband Alon Palm Winnie. June and Alon were married on July 16, 1960. In 1969, June became a US citizen.

June is survived by her 3 children, Alon Winnie Jr, Russell (Cathie) Winnie III and Debra (Todd) Winnie. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren Alon III, Lisa, Morgan, Devin, and Russell IV and her 4 great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Willow, Evelyne, Desmond, and her half-sister Trish Kreling in London England.

She was preceded in death by her father, her mother, sister Pam Jennings and her ex-husband Alon.

June was an avid tennis player, animal lover, devoted fan of singer Engelbert Humperdinck, tennis player Novak Djokovic and NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace.
