Judy S. Heyman, 86, passed away peacefully in her Highland Park home surrounded by her immediate family on January 27. She was the daughter of Dr. Allan and Sylvia Stamler of Corcoran, California. Judy was married to the love of her life, Jay S. Heyman, for 66 years. She is survived by her beloved husband; daughter Jennifer; son Alan; granddaughter Veronica; sister Susan (Ron) Tansky and many dear nieces and nephews.

Judy graduated with a BA from Northwestern and a Master's in Urban Planning from UIC. After working in urban planning for Lake County, IL she was appointed Chairperson of the Lake County Planning Commission. She later served on and became Chairperson of the Highland Park Plan Commission.

An avid reader, Judy loved mysteries and politics. Judy also loved all kinds of art. She became a prolific sculptor and her works can be found in homes from coast to coast. Her love for bright colors was reflected in both her wardrobe and her passion for gardening as a longtime member of the North Shore Garden Club.

She and Jay loved to travel and her favorite trips were to Italy. She particularly enjoyed the people, the food, and the sights. She adored theater and music and, with her husband, was active with Steppenwolf Theatre, Northlight Theatre, Ravinia Festival, the Chicago Symphony, and the Lyric Opera. As the matriarch of a family that spans 3 generations of Michigan Wolverines she was proud to celebrate their recent football championship with her family.

Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter. She was a fierce and loyal friend. In recent years she was graced by the gentle and loving care of caregivers Yuliya, Ali, Eva, Antonietta, and Aileen.
