Joyce Gholar Obituary
Joyce Yvonne Gholar, 88, passed away on July 8, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born in Prentiss, MS. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Cornelius and Truly Gholar; brother Kenneth L. Gholar; and sister Sharnelle Rhodes Barrow. She is survived by three sisters Minister Loyce E. Reese of Louisville, KY, Vera C. Rhodes Clift (Fred) of Columbia, MD, and Wanda J. Rhodes of Port Hueneme, CA; three brothers retired Sgt. Laureate S. Gholar, USAF, of San Antonio, TX, Rev. S.L. Gholar, and Attorney John H. Gholar (Dr. Cheryl) both of Chicago, IL; one aunt Ernestine Landing Tart (Andrew) of Chicago, IL; two uncles Harvey Landing Jr., and Joe L. Landing both of Mendenhall, MS; numerous cousins; special friend and confidant Dorothy Hudson of Chicago, IL; two goddaughters Cheryl D. Bond Echols (Eric) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Deirdre E. Gholar of Houston, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and acquaintances throughout the country.
Joyce's early education began in Chicago, IL and Prentiss, MS. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with concertation in accounting from Roosevelt University. Her early work experience was with Alden Catalog Co. and Sherman William Paint Co. Her last employment was with the State of Illinois where she retired from after 35 years of dedicated service - working as an Auditor, she traveled extensively throughout Illinois. After retiring she spent time working with non-profit organizations and doing seasonal income tax preparations, She was a health enthusiast which led her to open her own personal training studio "Go Jo Von" Fitness Center. Her leisure time was spent golfing and driving around the country with her friends.
Joyce's memories will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
