Charlie Gili and family and the hockey association: Thank you so much for keeping my son's memory alive by sending packages to our troops in harms' way. What a great way to let our military know they will never be forgotten, and there are so many waiting for thier safe return. I am humbled by your generosity, and I know my son would feel better that his brothers and sisters in arms are being remembered by your care packages. God bless you all.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also to let the Harris Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

Joshua, soon it will be a year that you will have left God's earth for higher ground. The death of a child is something you never get over so please let your parents know that you are now ok. God has a way of giving us signs when we're still and I pray that God has allowed those signs to come to your parents and family. As a Gold Star Mother I know the pain of the death of a child. I also know that it's not the death we remember but the life you lived and loved. May that life be celebrated and remembered forever.
Your parents aren't alone and there are many who are there for them. If they ever want to talk to others who have gone through the death of a child or loved one in active duty please do contact me.
May God continue to provide His love and comfort to your family and friends.

I first met Josh when he was around 4 years old. I watched him and his sister, Kristen, grow up because they lived only 2 blocks away from me. And yes, I do remember him dressing up as a soldier for Halloween trick-or-treating! I also remember Josh as one of the nicest, funniest, most obedient kids you would ever want to meet. I knew the Harris and Anderson families primarily because Josh's uncle, Russ Anderson, was one of my best friends. I was absolutely shocked when I heard this tragic news. Especially since Russ, a great husband, father of two wonderful children and dear friend was also tragically killed in an automobile accident around 7 years ago. This means Millie (Josh's mom) lost her only brother and, now, her only son. My heart goes out to the Harris and Anderson families: Especially Elaine (Josh's wonderful grandmother), Millie (Josh's loving mom), Kristen (Josh's sister) and Billle (Josh's dad). I'm sure their courage and strength will get them, and everyone else who knew Josh, through this senseless tragedy.
God bless Josh, his family, and everyone who knew him.

To the family and parents of Joshua I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, ""I welcome you.""
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......""My day was not in vain.""
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

I met Josh the first day in English Survey freshman year at Walther and we were assigned to do some sort of in class project together and right away he had me laughing. We also had Biology (and a couple other classes) together that year and he was my lab partner and would always dissect everything for me so I didn't have to touch it and he would always help the other people that didn't want to touch the things either. He was one of the most amazing people I've ever met. He always made me laugh and he always made me feel better when I was upset or going through a tough time; when my dad died he was one of the main people I could count on to help me through it. I miss him greatly and will never forget him.

To those who knew my son, you know what a blessing he was! To those of you who served with my son, I'm so proud of all of you and thank you for serving your country with such honor and dignity as Josh did. To those who didn't know my son you've missed out on knowing one of the most blessed human beings that God has given me the privilege of giving birth to. Joshua means "protector" and he died doing just that, protecting his country.... he loved the military, loved all people and worked (not too hard) at making you smile, even if you only knew him for a few minutes..... he grew into a great young man and I couldn't be more proud!! Let's not mourn his death but celebrate his life, that's what he would have wanted. His faith in God and country made him strong and brave and I ask all of you now for your continued prayers, love and support as we, his family, try to work through this difficult time... He was honored in such a wonderful way and I thank all of you for your support.

I only knew joshua as a little boy who was admired by all who came in contact with him and as an ex soldier myself my heart goes out to his family and friends. I worked with his father for over 20 years and Bill was as honorable of a man as you could meet and I am sure joshua inherited many of his fathers traits. Our son was one of the lucky ones who served and came home to us. I would just like to say Bill I am very sorry for your loss and if you need anything please don't hesitate to call

Its with a twist of irony that I find myself here.My daughter was to play the flute at Walther for the service of one of our troops, my heart was broken for the unknown family,she told me he was only 21. Today while she was there I picked up the paper and saw his face and I was stunned, little did I realize that this young man was the same little boy who played ball with my son,who used to come bowling at the place I work. Whos Father coached my Son and Josh in little league, whos Mom and gone too soon Uncle Russell were old pals of mine from our younger days in Forest Park...Mille,Bill and Jean I am so very sorry for the loss of your wonderful Josh. My heart, thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Frances Wilson McSheffrey

To Joshua's entire family my husband and I want to offer our heartfelt condolences. We owe our freedom and safety to your son and his brother soldiers who fight and sadly die to protect us. He does not need our prayers because we know that he is already with our Heavenly Father and will never know fear or pain or worry again. Instead we are praying for his loved ones that you may receive God's love and comfort in these painful times. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May He hold you and comfort you in the days and nights to come. God bless.

I did not know Capt.Hays, 1st Lt.Naqvi, or Staff Sgt Vazquez personally, however, there will always be a connection between them and Josh. My dear friend Mille Harris lost her son, Josh, on September 17th, 2008 at the very moment other mothers lost their loved sons, for they were together that tragic day. My heart breaks for all the mothers who have lost sons as it breaks for my dear friend Mille and her family. God took these fine, young, brave men from their earthly life fighting for our freedom and they are now fighting for our souls in heaven. I pray that they all have the strength to ge thru this.
