Spohn, Joseph P. 90, longtime resident of Norwood Park, Navy Veteran of WWII. Beloved husband for 65 years to Shirley (nee Miller), loving father of Terrence (Dionne), David (Sandra), Theresa (Brian) Parker, Martha Falconer and Anthony (Adela Agron) Spohn, proud grandfather of Aaron, Jesse, Nathan, Matthew, Rachel, Rebecca, Eric, Yvonne, Daniel, Brian, Anna and Michael, great-grandfather of Charlotte, Calvin and Jacob, dear brother of Catherine (the late James) Evans, Louis (Dorothy) Spohn and the late Helen McIIwee, fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Former Managing Editor of World Book Encyclopedia; retired 1981. Longtime member of Saint Thecla Parish Community and former baseball coach with the Norwood Park District Youth Leagues. Visitation Friday, from 5 until 9 p.m., at The M.J. Suerth Funeral Home, 6754 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago. Funeral Saturday, 9:30 a.m., Prayers at the funeral home to Saint Thecla Church. I worked with Joe in the 1970s and 1980s when I was a brand new editor on the World Book Annuals. Joe was always unfailing kind to me, and I learned a great deal from him. I will always remember him as a wonderful gentleman.
