Dear Porto Family:
Ray Mulvihill was kind enough to let me know of your loss. Although we have not seen each other in 30 years, I have thought of Joe often, especially as my sponsor at confirmation, and have fond memories of your family as neighbors growing up and on visits after my marriage. I let my mom know of Joe's passing and she asked me to send her sypmathies with ours. Mom is still living on her own in Florida and had her 92nd birthday last June.

Porto Family, I just recently found out of Joe's passing. I have many fond memories of gatherings with the family and shaking Joe's hand. He may have had one of the strongest handshakes I have encountered. Gerri, you and Joe have always been close to my Mom and I appreciate that support. Please accept our deepest sympathy. We remember many happy occasions with Joe and Gerri, dinners at Greek restaurants (Joe always ordered the cod), visits in the Porto home where we admired the lovely furniture Joe made for his bedroom. We remember a kind, gentle, loving, humble man. We remember how he always hugged us when we met, saying "May the Peace of the Lord be with you." We remember his smile, his love for Gerri and his kids and grandkids. We remember going to the Candlelight and sitting stage-side with Gerri and Joe on comped seats because the owners appreciated Joe's fine produce. We honor and respect Joe's amazing ability to have fathered such fine children and earned the love and devotion of his lovely wife. Joe, we miss you. Thank you for being a dear friend. May the peace of the Lord be with you.
