Joseph Murphy Obituary
Joseph L Murphy, M.D., age 86, passed away on May 26, 2022. Joe was born in Chicago on August 25, 1935. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marilyn; his parents, Joseph and Mary Murphy; and sisters Mary Ruth, Grace Vivian, and Dolores. Survived by his sister Claudette. Cherished father of Jennifer, Mary, Joseph, Veronica, Timothy, Denise, and Kevin. Devoted grandfather of Marya, Isabel, Elise, Ryan, Julianne, Derek, Jason, Daniel and Luca.
Joe graduated from St. Ignatius High School, then from Loyola University with a bachelor of science and the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. He was an internist on the staff of St Joseph Hospital in Chicago for forty years. Joe was an army veteran assigned to the main base in Orlean, France.

Visitation: Tuesday, May 31, 4-8 pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero, Chicago. Funeral: Wednesday, June 1 at Queen of All Saints Basilica at 10 am followed by entombment at All Saints Mausoleum. More info www.smithcorcoran.com or 773-736-3833.

Joe was a prominent doctor at St. Joseph´s hospital when I was an intern in 1975. He loved both practicing and teaching medicine. He enjoyed seeing his patients and they enjoyed seeing him. He also gave much time and effort to our medical societies over the years. He will truly be missed. My sincere condolences to his family.

My dearest Doctor Murphy is now gone. So often I think of him as he was my doctor for many years. What a wonderful man he was. Even after I moved to Lemont, Illinois, I drove to Chicago to keep him as my doctor. He was a prince. A king. So great. I will keep him in my prayers. God bless all of you. Sr. Kathleen Melia, OSF
