Mary Ann Kuchta

August 1, 2007

Your family has my deepest sympathy. I have a very sweet story to share with you all. I never met Joe, but about 22 years ago, I received a phone call from an English woman asking if I was related to or knew a Joe Kuchta. I told her no, but some time later, I received a letter from her. Apparently she and Joe were good friends during WWII. He in fact had stayed with her family at their home quite often while he was stationed in England. Her name was Mary. She said they corresponded after the war and knew he also served in Korea. They lost touch over the years. Now that she was getting older, she wanted to renew their friendship and catch up on their lives. I wrote back, promising to search all phone books (this was before the Internet) I could find in Illinois. Little did I realize that Joe and his wife lived less than a mile from me. I live in Beverly and he lived in Evergreen Park! Small world, huh? I called Joe and asked if it would be okay for me to give Mary his address. He agreed. I wrote her and after receiving a very nice thank you gift of a book of poetry, I didn't hear from her again. Some time after that, Joe called me to thank me for taking the time to do the research to find him for Mary. It turns out that after my phone call to him and letter to Mary, they reconnected. Many phone calls between the two followed and Mary also became a very good friend of his late wife, also named Mary Ann Kuchta. This story has been a staple of my "heartwarming stories" over the years and I was truly saddened to read of Joe's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. My own Dad passed away last month, so I know how you all feel. Take good care.

To the entire Kuchta family, I am saddened by your great loss. I am
a past student of a great man in your family whose name was Louis Kuchta. I still feel very connected to Mr. Louis Kuchta and when I heard of this loss to your family, I was immediately taken back to my wonderful experience with Louis. I pray that you all will heal in the mercy of our Lord and may you be filled with perfect peace during this difficult moment. God Bless you one and all.
