Joseph Godwin Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Joseph W. Godwin, 86, passed away in James River Convalescent Center on Monday, Oct. 21, 2002. A native of Middlesex, N.C., he had a Peninsula resident since 1943. Mr. Godwin was retired from Coats and Clark, where he had been employed for 31 years. Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy B. Godwin. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Jean Roche of Cleveland, Ohio, and Rebecca Lynne Godwin of Barstow, Calif.; two sons, Joseph W. Godwin Jr. of Virginia Beach and Dickie Wayne Godwin of Chesapeake; his brother, W. Lewis Godwin of Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday in Peninsula Memorial Park.
