Joseph Blas Obituary
Capt. Joseph I. Blas (Ret. CPD), age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth M. Blas; dear children: Valencia (Jimmy) Burklow, Ronald (Nidia) Blas, Brandon Blas and Justin (Christina) Blas; cherished grandchildren: Dane, Alec, Giànna, Joshua, Victoria, Joseph, Symoñe, Ava, Julianna and Ivon; adored great grandchildren: Dominic, Violet, Vera, Luca and Luciano and 4 siblings.
Preceded in death by his parents: Constantino and Maria and his beloved pets, Angus and Sammy.
Joseph was born in San Luis Potasi, Mexico, in 1943. Joseph was a boxer, a barber, and a carpenter prior to joining the Chicago Police Department in 1969 where he excelled to the rank of Captain of Police in his 34-year career. Throughout his life he touched many people with his generous advice and would never turn his back on a friend. He was proud of his culture and instilled that in all of his family members. Throughout his life he wore many hats but will be most remembered as a loving husband, father, uncle, godfather, grandfather, and great grandfather. We are all sad to see him go but know his light will go on in his new watch as overseer of us from Heaven.
Visitation will take place on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home (4727 W. 103 rd St., Oak Lawn, IL). Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 with 10:00 A.M. prayers from Blake-Lamb Funeral Home to St. Barnabas Catholic Church with Mass at 11:00 A.M. A private entombment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery will be held at a later date.

My familys collective hearts are broken and we mourn the loss of "Grandpa Joe" who represented the best example of an angel here on earth and will never be forgotten. We mourn his loss and pray that he rests in eternal peace in the Lords omnipresent care.
Joes humility, benevolence, thoughtfulness and service to mankind touched my entire family and will never be replicated. Each of us is better for knowing and witnessing his daily acts of kindness and concern for his fellow man. His passing creates an enormous void that will never be filled.
The entire Medina/Lerma family convey our heartfelt condolences and prayers to all who knew and loved Joe. May his memory be for a blessing.
