Johnny Nichols Obituary

Nichols, Johnny (Johnnie) 88, passed away at home peacefully. He was the husband of Anna Mae, who preceded him in death May 2017. They shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Bastrop, LA, he was the fifth sibling of ten children of Champ and Mable Nichols. He was employed with the Chicago Transit Authority and worked until retirement. In addition he drove a taxicab throughout the Chicago area. He accepted Jesus Christ at a very early age. His first church membership in the Chicago area was with the LeClaire Baptist Church under Pastor Bush. A few years later transferred his membership to United Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Pastor Wilson Daniels. He was ordained a Deacon and served the church and community for 47 years. Johnny will be remembered for never meeting a stranger, witnessing the gospel, family gatherings, photography and the expression, "Remember me as Johnny Nichols, that's what they call me!" A son, Daniel Nichols of Chicago, IL, survives him; a sister, Mrs. Mable (Level) Stewart of Riverdale, IL; three grandchildren, John-Vincent and Stephen Daniel Nichols of Herndon, VA, Mrs. Sara Anne Irene (Nichols) Drabek of Boston, MA; four sisters-in-law, Rose (Claude) Hurt, Willette Banner, Margaret Nichols, Irene Nichols; and a host of nieces and nephews. The Funeral Services/Home Going Celebration will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m.Interment at Oakridge-Glen Oak Cemetery, 4301 West Roosevelt Road, Hinsdale, IL 60162. Viewing/visitation will be held from 4:00-9:00 p.m. at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago, IL, 773-736-3833.
