John Tunnell Obituary

Tunnell, John Lewis 85, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2008 in Dallas, Texas after a brief illness. John was born on May 1, 1923 in Alabama. He was one of five sons born to George and Willie May Tunnell. He married Naomi "Shorty" Shields who preceded him in death in 1988. John served as a mechanic in the U.S. Army from November of 1942 until he was honorably discharged in February of 1946. After his military service, he worked as an insulator and was a member of Asbestos Workers Local 21 for more that 55 years. Over the years he was a dedicated brother and loving uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews. He was ever a good neighbor and had many good friends. John was known for his generosity and would unselfishly help anyone who needed help. He is survived by one brother Merlin Tunnell and his many nieces and nephews. Visitation will start at 10:00 AM, followed by funeral services, 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 19, 2008, Grove Hill Serenity Chapel. Interment will follow in Grove Hill Memorial Park.
