Dear Crickett and John,
I called Paul Dulle today and found out that had missed Johns visitation and funeral. I am bothered by that notion, yet I will see you all sometime down the road and be able to see you and support your recent loss. When I was a new photographer in Chicago, I worked for a great friend of Johns, Ralph Larson. Ralph told me back in 1983 to follow, listen to, work for, help with...anything John might need, throughout his career. Ralph was retiring and was passing John to me. I did just that, whatever John wanted, suggested, needed, I listened and followed through. John would take a hug from me from time to time during our photo shoots and I know that he knew how special he was to me along with Ralphs deep adoration and love as well. I'm sorry for this loss, yet all our gains while huddled around this great man, your father, were the most genuine times that life could offer. John reinforced my skills in caring for others and working hard within our own communities. I love you all.

John was a much loved supporter and friend of the Chicago Philharmonic serving as the Chairman of our Honorary Trustees, but more than that he was a wonderful friend to me and my wife who would always look for us in the orchestra at Lyric Opera or on stage at Chicago Philharmonic Concerts. John would give a little wave from the audience and we would respond with a wave of our instruments. We will miss his cheerfulness and good counsel.

With deepest symphathy to all his loved ones,

James T. Berkenstock
President, Chicago Philharmonic

Our condolences to your entire family.
John was a wonderful and insightful leader. His humility and integrity were attributes that endeared him to us all. John gave all his energy to the disabled and their quest for accessibility at home, around the city and in education.
The UCP Board of Directors can only hope to live up to his example and legacy.
May God bless John and you, his loving family.

My dad, Walter Lehnert, worked for Illinois Bell for 45 years in public relations at the downtown headquarters. He passed away 4 years ago. Mr. Trutter was my dad's boss and I remember him talking about him. Mr. Trutter was a leader with UCP, my adult daughter has CP and is doing well.

You are children of a great patriot. My condolences. I was able to work with your father on a project many years ago and see his gentlemanlyness in action. His impressions on me live forever. The state of Illinois has lost a true gem. May his memory live through the many selfless and goodworks of his that he shared with the citizens of Illinois and the country.

Dear Cricket and Jonathan,

My profound condolences on your loss. John was an amazing leader, but, more importantly, a compassionate humanitarian who will be long-remembered. I served with your dad and Art Rubloff on the UCP committees and came to know him well. God bless.

My sympathy and prayers to the family of John Trutter. It was my privilege to know him through my acquaintance with his brother, John, and I found him to be both interesting and urbane. May he be with the Lord, and may the Holy Faith we share be your comfort and consolation. Life is changed, not ended. Alleluia!
