I apologize for being so long in extending my deepest sympathy to the family of John Swearingen. When we met at social events, he was always cordial and ready to share an intriguing story. His spirit will remain with all who knew, admired and loved him.

How lucky I was to have worked for Standard Oil-Amoco Oil during the years with the remarkable John E. Swearingen. His leadership made the Company what it was.

The University of South Carolina College of Engineering will receive a check in his memory from me today.
