My heart and my prayers go out to the family of John R. Steiger. I came into their lives as a caregiver to John, in hope's that he might recover with the help of a caregiver at home. I came into their lives very late in John's, but I came to know him as a "Man's man..." Someone who embrassed the outdoors and nature in a way that many of us don't. With open eye's and mind to the beauty that life share's. God rest your soul, John and may your family find peace while you rest and wait for them in Heaven.

What a wonderful man! I only knew him because he was my sister's father-in-law. I feel blessed even having this secondary relationship. His legacy of integrity and artistic talent lives on in his family.

Hans and I knew (and loved) John since 1965 when we became neighbors in Riverwoods. Our kids grew up together and we spent many happy hours in the company of Johm and Phyllis. They were our guides to the flora and fauna of Illinois as well as much insider information about Chicago. They always respected nature and the environment.
John once claimed we "saved his life" when we picked him up at a Boy Scout Klondike Derby with a thermos of "miner's tea." John was a hands-on father, a doting husband and a wonderful friend. We always admired John's insightful artwork and his dry sense of humor. Because he worked at home, he was always on call for female household emergencies like a chipmunk that the cat brought in and deposited in the dining room.

John and Phyllis and the children enriched our lives in so many ways, and the world will not be the same with him gone. We will miss him beyond what words can say.
