I met John & Sylvia thru their son Tim. We were both attending the U of I in Champaign ('down south') at the time. 1977/81. Even though I would drive around 600 miles North from Arkansas to get to Champaign! I was a guest in the Novak's home during breaks in our rigid studies from 1977 thru 1981. I always felt I was a welcome guest during our visits, and when I learned that John & I both were drummer's, that opened things up down in the lower bar/lounge area of the home. They also thought I spoke funny. I thought they did too. John also was gracious enough to sell me a set of Ludwig Brass Timbales w/calfskin head's, which I still own and use here in San Miguel de Allende MX, where I now live. When on gig's here I am asked to bring those Timbales, so John is near my thoughts often. Thanks for everything John. RIP ! Scott Mason
