Dear Monaghan family,
Just looking up your Mom and Dads obits on the web to share with my Mom Jackie Melvin. She was a dear friend of your Mom Eileen, grandma to Johnies 4 children.
We are so sorry about your Dad! We used to hang out at the Monaghan home in Hillside when growing up. Great family. They were a big family like ours. 8 of us Melvins.
I am proud that Johnie served his country. 4 of us served too and Mom and Dad, too.
Our childhood was so much fun with your Dad and Moira and Sheila too. The home they had was huge with a great basement for playing in and the street your dad played on was Forest Avenue in Hillside and had many trees. A great great neighborhood. The bigger kids, like your dad, would go tobaggonning on the streets and on the golf course hills. We all lived across the street from a country club and there were chickens and roosters back there. Bunnies on the golf course lawn.
Your dad I believe went to St. Domitillas like we all did. A good man who served his country well and he was the oldest...a role model. Please know he had great parents, whom were your grandparents.
I will share this with mom. She is 97 but really misses Eileen who was probably her best friend there in Hillside and when she needed a friend. They both would talk about their kids, and shared many laughs!
sincerely,
Maureen Melvin

Dear John,
You had such enormous energy: a true veteran advocate. Vice President of Veterans for Unification.
I will miss your gregarious personality and smile. And that message on your voicemail. And I will miss our meals at George's.
Rest In Peace with your comrades.
