John McCann Obituary

John P. McCann
In Danville, October 28, 2002, from complication of Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease. Born February 15, 1943 in Dayton Ohio, and had been a resident of Pleasant Hill, OH & Seattle, WA prior to moving to Danville 25 yrs. ago.
John served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam where he founded/edited the Army magazine 'Credibilis.' John worked for the Insurance Information Institute for 17 yrs. in Seattle, San Francisco & NYC. He was a founding member of both the Seattle & San Francisco Arson Task Forces; the California Governor's Earthquake Task Force; & authored 'How To Prepare For An Earthquake, A Guide For Business.' He appeared on television shows with Merv Griffin, Jane Pauley & Phil Donahue. He also owned his own public relations/advertising consulting business.
He was editor of the Insurance Journal for several years before co-founding the Workers Comp Executive newsletter. John received many awards, among his favorites were Certificate of Commendation, Board of Supervisors, Contra Costa County, CA for 'outstanding professional achievements & services to the County'; Certificate of Merit, San Francisco Fire Commission, for efforts in setting up an Arson Task Force; & Merit Award, Insurance Information Institute, for authoring the book 'How To Prepare for an Earthquake; A Guide For Businesses.'
John is survived by his wife of 33 yrs, Kathy; son & daughter, John Robert & Kara Suzanne McCann all of Danville; mother-in-law, Lillian Sheller of Carmichael; cousin, Dolly Angel of New York, & her family, & his extended family of aunts, uncles, & cousin's from Kathy's side of the family.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, November 2, 2002 at Wilson & Kratzer Chapel of San Ramon Valley, 825 Hartz Way, Danvill, CA, with visitation one hour prior to & one hour after service time. Interment with Military Honors will be at San Joaquin National Cemetery, Gustine, CA on Monday, November 4, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. For additional information, please contact Wilson & Kratzer, Danville, 925-820-2999.
