Joyce, John "Jack"

John "Jack" Joyce of Michigan City, passed away peacefully on his 70th birthday, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 20th, 2024. He was the youngest of seven children born to Rita (Lynch) and Daniel O'Connell Joyce who preceded him in death.

Prior to relocating to Michigan City, Jack lived and worked in Chicago, having served 19 years working as a dispatcher for the Chicago Fire Department. He also worked as stage hand for WGN TV in Chicago before recently retiring. Jack also worked for the Indiana State Highway Department. He was a member of the Decorators Union and Stage Hands Union. Jack was also a member of American Legion Post 451 and Post 187.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy Joyce and his son Daniel and his granddaughter Dian Nicole Dickelman. He is also survived by brothers Jeremiah (Mary), James (Maureen) and his sister, Robin (Ronald) Wilcynski and many nieces and nephews and legions of friends. He was preceded in death by sisters Patsy Gjeldun, Maureen (Ed) George and his brother, Daniel O. (Patricia) Joyce.

Jack was known and recognized for his strong work ethic and his willingness to help those in need, known or unknown. He was a strong advocate for the LaPorte County Humane Society, encouraging pet adoptions as well as their efforts to find homes for pets and re-uniting lost animals with their owners.

Friends may visit with family and share memories on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home located at 613 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana from 4:00 pm until the time of Prayer Services at 6:00 pm with Father Hector Trevino officiating.

A special Mass will be held at St. Cajetan Catholic Church in Chicago followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon in January 2025.

Sorry to hear about JJ's passing. He Was a great friend too many during all our interactions on the Chicago fire department. We always knew he had our backs over the radio when situations arose. Not to mention how Much we all enjoyed our interactions with Jack during all of our careers on the Chicago fire department.
