I was lucky to be his student. He taught us a different way to see the world. I remember he had a lovely deep voice and his laughter would fill a room.
Thank you Doc for teaching me how to write poetry like the opening of a tap.

I was very sorry to learn this news. From the mid-80s to 2000, I was the person at NU responsible for the writing courses offered through the undergraduate evening program. I relied on John to teach creative writing courses and sometimes composition. I appreciated his work in mentoring students who would share their creative work at our semesterly Reading Nights. May he rest in peace and may happy memories console his family.
