John Hodgson Obituary

John A. Hodgson
John A. (Beak) Hodgson, age 56, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007, at his home surrounded by loving family and friends. Since May of 2004, he had won many battles, yet, lost the war against cancer. His family would like to thank everyone for their love and support throughout his life.
John was born in Massillon and graduated from Washington High School in 1969 and Akron University in 1973. He was employed by Republic Steel and its' successor companies for 30 years in various accounting management positions after spending 5 years with the First National Bank of Massillon. John was a member of the Sideliners who loved his Tigers, Michigan Wolverines and Cincinnati Bengals and never lost an argument about his teams. His love of life was often reflected in his face when his smile revealed those deep, adorable dimples. He will always be remembered as a thoughtful, caring, special friend who loved being surrounded by his many friends. He cared for his friends from childhood until the end. These friends often remarked that John and Jacquie were the perfect match with different personalities, but complemented and completed each other. John was preceded in death by his parents, Glendle and Geraldine (Ged) Hodgson and an infant daughter Erica. He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Jacquie, who lost the love of her life and best friend; he was a loving stepfather to Jenifer and Matthew (Jaime) Warner.
He is also survived by a brother, Larry J. (Jeannie) Hodgson; Aunt Dorothy Mitchell; nephews, Larry and David Hodgson, Dan (Shellie) and Don ( Pebbles) Helbert; and a niece, Joneen (Jason) Furbay; mother-in-law, T. Jeanne Betteker; brothers-
in-law, J. Michael (Mary Anne) Betteker, J. Mark (Penny) Betteker, Jeffrey (Cathy) Betteker; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his faithful dog and companion, "Rocky". John was a member of St. John's U.C.C. Church. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday at the church with Rev. Robert Moore officiating. Calling hours are Thursday 6-9 PM at Atkinson-Feucht-Shaidnagle Funeral Home in Massillon and 10-11 AM Friday at the church. Contributions are suggested to any of the following: St. John's U.C.C., American Cancer Society, or Aultman Hospice.

John was a fine person who could always bring a smile to one's face. He never had a negative word to say about anyone, nor could anyone say a negative word about him. He truly was a special person and will always be remembered as that.

Dear Jacquie,
I am so very sorry to hear of your lose. I know how perfect a couple the two of you are. You knew it from the start that you would be together. Let the kids know that my heart goes out to them as well. When we lose a loved one (two years last Saturday for mom) we have a hole in our hearts. Let your Higher Power fill that hole with love and memories of the blessed time that you did have together. You are an awesome individual and don't ever forget it. We have been friends for a long, long time and I feel for you knowing how big your heart is. You will be ok if you pray and let God work in healing you - one day at a time! (sometimes one minute at a time) I love you and the kids and if there is anything at all that we can do for you please don't hesitate to contact me. Love and comfort to you and yours

Jacquie,
I was deeply saddened to learn of John's struggle with cancer and his untimely death. His smile, zestfulness, and purposeful life will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
John's candor, honesty, and dedication to what he believed made him the kind of person one learns to love and appreciate. I always respected him and believed that he was an extraordinary personality.
My prayers remain with you and your family. God's love is always greater than our personal tragedies. His presence is sufficient comfort for all your pain.
