Family-Placed Death Notice

Mr. John William Dillard Harvey, age 87, of Smyrna, GA, died Thursday, September 9, 2004 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, Graveside from the Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Todd Rainwater officiating. Mr. Harvey retired as a Major from the U.S. Army in 1969 after 30 years of service. He also retired as a Chemist from the State of Georgia in 1969 after 34 years of employment. He was a member of the U.S. Power Squadron, Coast Guard Auxiliary, American Chemical Society, Alpha Khi Sigma Chemical Fraternity, Chi Phi Fraternity, GA Academy of Science and he was a member of the Second Ponce De Leon Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving are, son, John W.D. Harvey, Jr. of Fayetteville, GA; brother, Robert G. Harvey of Tryon, NC; grandchildren, John and Lee Harvey, Chris and Laura Katherine Harvey, great-grandchild, Elizabeth Reid Harvey. Arrangements are being handled by Carmichael Funeral Home, 2950 King Street, Smyrna, GA, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Saturday, September 11, 2004.
