John Duignan Obituary

Duignan, John J. Age 85, passed peacefully on September 8, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family on his 85th birthday. Born in Chicago to the late Jeremiah and Anna Louis (nee Keenan) Duignan. His stepmother Helen (nee Keehn) Duignan also preceded him death. He is the loving husband of 55 years to Patricia (nee Ostrowski) Duignan; proud father to Diana L. (Anthony) Romano, John J. Duignan Jr.; Laura L. (Douglas) Lenz, Timothy J. Duignan, Sandra L. Duignan, the late Daniel J. Duignan, Pamela L. (Christopher) Montell, Steven J. (Colleen) Duignan, Todd J. (Josephine) Duignan, Phillip J. (Kelly) Duignan; loving grandfather to Brianne, Austin, Madison, Keagan, Braden, Joseph, Alexis, Christopher, Amelia, Joshua, Kaitlyn, Phillip, Daniel, and Ava; brother to the late Jerry Duignan, late William Duignan, Patrick Duignan, late James Duignan; and godfather and uncle to many. "Captain John" honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 30 years of service with the Chicago Police Department. Captain John also worked security at St. Xavier University and eventually retired from Cook County Sheriff Department. During this fifty years of gainful employment, he worked many side jobs to support his "crew". John and his family are faithful members of St. Christina Parish, where he served as Eucharistic Minister and usher, he was voted Man of the Year in Mt. Greenwood in 1988, and for many years served as precinct captain for the 19th Ward. Family and friends who were initiated as a Duignan for the Day, marched proudly with the family in the South Side Irish Parade for over 30 years on the Duignan Clan float. With his children, he loved camping across the Midwest. He and his wife enjoyed spending their summers with their children and grandchildren at their lake house "Danny's Dream" in Lake Delavan, Wisconsin. He is the "King" of snipe hunting and the "Mayor" of Delavan, Wisconsin and Mt. Greenwood. As he now sails away, his crew and first mate bid "AHOY". Visitation will be Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Andrew J. McGann & Sons Funeral Home (10727 S. Pulaski Rd., Chicago, IL 60655). Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christina Catholic Church (3342 W. 111th Street, Chicago, IL 60655) with Fr. Tom Conde officiating. He will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on the anniversary of his son Danny's death. Memorials may be made towards Shriner's Hospital.
