The Duff Family – In 1981, I was a newly licensed Attorney, just starting to practice at what was then called the Industrial Commission. So my career overlapped Mr. Duff’s for a few years. He reported many of my early trials. He was always a gentleman, and he amazed me how he could take down every word at a trial with just a steno pad and his fountain pen. I didn’t believe it at first. But when you got your transcripts back, they were always letter perfect.
I salute his service in W W II. It was an honor to have worked with him.
What a beautiful Mass. Jack Jr.’s eulogy was magnificent.

Hi Duff Family,
Just wanted to send my condolences on the passing of your Dad/Husband. I have many memories of him sitting on the front porch reading the paper, but the most memorable was of him walking home after work in his suit, carrying his briefcase down Jackson Blvd. and knowing that it was almost time for dinner (you could set your watch to it). His love, pride and devotion to his family was apparent. He was a great neighbor and truthfully was already being missed by my family when your Mom and Dad moved, but the void left from his passing is being felt. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Hi Darling Duff Clan,
I am so sad that Mr. Duff, who desperately tried to get me to call him Jack at my father's funeral... (couldn't do it) is gone... He was a light in the Roach Family life for many years... Katie and Jack... Mimi and John L. were wonderful friends and we Roach kids loved the Duffs! To all of you, we will miss a guy who loved to laugh... Jim, especially, my thoughts and prayers are with you... Claire (roach) Metz

Mr. Jack Duff had a wry humor about the passing scene, whether it be Kenilworth Ave or St. Ignatius (where John Jr & I went to school) or the goings on at City Hall. And like Tom Gearen says, that porch was where he delivered many of those great observations. What a great youth we all had there in Oak Park, where our houses were open to each other, and all parents were every kid's parents. I'm grateful to have known the Duff family, and I offer my prayers for you.

many thanks for many great times with jack and kaye and the duffs on the old 800 kenilworth. I can see jack now on his new front porch with the paper and a beer and a smoke, waiving a firendly hello as angels retrieve the baseball or football from his new front lawn in heaven.
jack was a father to many more than the duffs. thanks for sharing him with all of us on kenilworth and know he is in a great place today.
