Dear Steve & Family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Although I didn't really know your dad I felt like I did through all the great stories you shared with us at work. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time and please let me know if you need anything.

I was in his class when he first came to Bowen. He was the youngest after Lou Wasserman,Harry Pritikin and Bill Mutz. I caught a pass in gym class and he asked me why I hadn't come out for football?I said I had played some frosh-soph basketball and baseball and preferred my nose just the way it was.Lol. He laughed . Such a nice guy and straight arrow. I became a physician and moved west. Looks like he had a fine career and life. So sorry for his family. Wish our paths had crossed at a reunion.RIP Mr. Costello

Coach was a big influence in my life. While my basketball talent was lacking, he admired and praised my hard work ethic. He believed in me, and helped me believe in myself. He lauded my scholastic achievements. His basketball knowledge was vast, his passion was intense, and his patience was sometimes short. He will be remembered fondly by his many players.

Dear Elaine, Steven, Cristne, Gina and families,
I know John had been ailing but it still caught me off guard to see this posting. John was always so nice when I saw him, remembering the years at Bowen and marrying our dear neighbor Elaine. May his memory always be a blessing to you all and know that I am sending my deepest sympathies and love.

Coach was such a big influence in my life. When my dad got sick he took me under his wings. His tough love was what I needed. He was always there when I needed him. He was the reason I was fortunate enough to go play college basketball. My freshman year in college I came home for Christmas break and he had me coach the fresh soph team for a game in Kankakee. I was hooked and went on to coach High School for 40 years. Coach was the main reason. Rest in Peace!

Our deepest sympathies go to his family, Coach was a big influence in my life.
He taught more than basketball to us but a way of life as a man. He teachings, I am sure of, have been passed down from all his players down to their children as well. R.I.P. Coach.
