I was shocked to see this in the newspaper today. John was my 'nono' (godfather). He was my parent's koumbaro when they married. My family and his were the best of friends. My father (James Makris) sold his restaurant to them while he had the parking lot next door. My father also was with them in Greece long ago.
I loved my nono dearly, his zest for life, travel and people. He found something interesting in everything he did and has always been a great inspiration to me. He showed me his great generosity when I was a child by taking me to an orphanage and telling me his gift to me that year was going to the orphans since they really needed it. This left a great impression and is something I will never forget. I can't believe he is gone-way too soon.
My deepest sympathies to all of you. Carmen-I remember our dinner at Mon Ami Gabi and how he told the waiter I wasn't his goddaughter but his girlfriend....
I will miss him dearly and hope he is with his parents, sister and my father, all dancing and laughing as they did while they were here with us. God Bless him.

I would have to say that John Colis was one of the most unique individuals I have ever known and I believe he wanted it that way. I remember him often saying to me "Never follow anyone be your own man!" It will be hard to find another person in this world with John's spot on advice and keen perception of the world.

John has touched so many of us with his kindness, caring, and the love and "The Heart of Gold" that embodied him. He was taken from us far to early, but he has left us all with so many wonderful memories. I will miss John, his laughter, and the friendship he and I shared for all these many years. God Speed John in your journey home to join your family, and Thank You John for allowing me to be a part of the Colis - Geo-Karis Family.
