John was a "fun guy" and never held it against me that I was a Georgetown "Hoya" and not a Notre Dame "Golden Domer". We had many good times together in San Diego and at Notre Dame.
God bless John's soul. We miss him - Larry (and Judy) Logue

John and I saved together in RVN during 1972 prior to the end of the conflict there. He was the Naval liaison to the Army of the Republic of S. Viet Nam at Qui Nhon, Binh Dinh province. We shared an experience that was raw and rough owing to the fact that our unit, Sub-Unit 1, 1st ANGLICO, USMC was one of the last to leave. We rekindled our friendship via the ANGLIO Association and saw each other off and on over the last several years. He was easy company and a good friend. Someone who had your back.

To the Burke Family: We are going to miss John, or as our family called him, "Shorts" so much. South Bend will never be the same on game days. When we sat next to Shorts at ND games, he had a phone, radio and binoculars in his hands and his hands were moving all the time. He knew all the football stats. He had more football updates than the announcers.
He came to some of our son Jay's high school games and he knew several high school team stats as well. He keep us updated on local coaches and players and what to expect when we were playing the opposing teams.
We always knew we would see him as soon as we drove into the condo parking lot in South Bend. He was the life of the party and had so many stories to tell us. We will miss seeing him there and it definitely won't be the same.
Our hearts go out to all the family. We are very sorry for your loss. We will miss him dearly. With love - Kos, Gloria & Jay Koski

John was a patriot, a loving son and sibling and
a true supporter of things he believed in. Not only did he support Notre Dame but he supported, in spirit, as well as financially, many other institutions. He was a dear friend and I will greatly miss him. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Condolences to the burke family. He was a fellow 1965 Carmel grad. Always remembering the vets. Knew him after graduation and spent time conversing with him at the yearly banquet that he attended even with a cast on and in pain
Gonna miss those conversations.
