John Bowman Obituary

John E. Bowman, II
Jacksonville, FL
John Bowman, 82, died in his home in Jacksonville, Sunday, June 10, 2012. John was born in Upstate New York; he often spoke fondly of all the life lessons learned growing up on a farm. John served in the U.S. Army from 1951 through 1953 and, in 1956, attended beauty school. John became an award winning stylist and operated several hair salons, including John's Beauty Ranch. When chemical allergies forced a change, John went to work on the railroad, retiring in 1996 from the west yard in Croton-on-Hudson as a conductor. In 1998, John moved to Florida with his beloved Pernie (Ann) Gilbert, also formerly of Utica, NY, where they lived in West Palm Beach and then Jacksonville. John was known to all as a generous, caring person who always had or made time for anyone. Quick with a joke, he was always smiling. John was a spiritualist, a believer of Huna philosophy, and a life member of the American Society of Dowsers. John taught us to see the world through new eyes and truly accept that there is more to our journeys than what seems before us. He will be missed. John is survived by sons and step-sons, Jack Bowman III, Eugene Davis, Randy and Sandy Grant, and Glen Wieger; brother and best friend, Richard Bowman; sister Shirley Ward; two granddaughters, Emily and Caroline; special cousin, Judy Drexler; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. John was predeceased by siblings, Madlyn Gonyea, Greta Cleary, and Gary Bowman. Private arrangements will be in Florida. Corey - Kerlin Funeral Home, Jackson-ville, Florida assisting the family.

On John's annual summer visits to Utica to see his Brother and Sister-in-Law Dick & Jean, he would always stop next door to chat. I looked forward to these chats because he would weave in some knowledge or wisdom on the topic. John would leave me feeling as though I had been given a gift and the chats would always end with both of us smiling.
My you rest in God's merciful comfort John.
