To Father George's family,
I first met Fr. George over 40 years ago and all that time I considered him one the best priests I ever met. He had a joy in him that made him special. He would almost always make you laugh.
We had a Mass at my house for family members and George was the celebrant. Well more people showed up than expected so I had to ask George to stand in the doorway to say Mass. I always remembered that he filled the doorway. He was big man in stature and heart. What a wonderful man.

February 13, 2018

Found Father George's funny business card......Many fond memories of his time here in Duxbury, Mass... He roared with laughter when I told him...my Granddaughter...then two years old....thought he was a Teletubbie in his green vestments.......We were both born in 1938...he in August....me in October......Guess the folks in the hereafter needed a laugh...or a story.... Save a place for me up there Father.......Rest in Heavenly Peace........

Thanks so much to all of you for the wonderful memories of my big brother. I know he is now at peace, celebrating with the Lord, with Mom and Dad, and the family and friends who have welcomed him to heaven. I knew he had touched the lives of many, many people, and that's a huge consolation during these difficult days.

There are so many thing I will miss about Father George. His great big comforting hugs, the twinkle in his eye, his ability to see the humor in daily life, his support, his advise, and his friendship. I am forever grateful that he was part of my life. He married my daughter and baptized my grandchildren. He left his mark on my heart. Rest In Peace.

Oh Gee...I just learned of Father George's passing.... When my Grandchildren were little...I brought them to Mass...and Fr. George walked up and down the aisle regaling us with laughter... My Granddaughter thought he was a green Teletubbie. (He wore green vestments that day).......and when I told him this...he roared with laughter.... He was born in August of 1938...I came along in October of 1938.......He would say to me.....What happened??? Look at us!!!! I told him to use lipstick and hair color as I do.... Hair color.....maybe....lipstick...never..... Very fond memories of him here at Holy Family, Duxbury, Mass....Rest in Heavenly Peace Father.....and when I come over.....give me that friendly wave........ Blessings to his family and his community.......

Fr. George was so many things to our family in addition to being a wonderful priest -- friend, counselor, and, on occasion, babysitter. In his babysitting capacity, he demanded to be called "Fr. Mom."

Like so many other families, he baptized our babies, married our couples, and helped us bury our loved ones.

The world is a better place because he so openly shared his humor, wisdom, and love with us all.

He was part of my family before I was born, and will remain part of it now.

Dear Jim and family,

My heart hurts with you today as the news of George's passing reached me. Along with all the sadness are all the fun (and funny) memories our family has of him. I think he performed every Mack/Mazza/Barra wedding, funeral and baptism for the past 40 years. He became a part of our families histories. Hopefully I can get in touch with you somehow in order to get a prayer card or two.

What a Gift he has been to all of us.

Peace and Love, Jeannie Mack

Fr George,
I will always wear my Indian Dress and let you wear my black in Heaven while we have our coffees once in Duxbury, then over the phone and now in Heaven. I always saw the best in me through your eyes.

Dear Fr. Jim,
Your dear brother was a special person. He will be missed by so very many people whose lives his life has touched. May you draw peace and joy from the knowledge of the great peace he brought to so many lives.
Know that you are in my prayers!

Fr George was a real, rare and wonderful gift in this world and in the life of my family!
George had a way of making you feel special, cared for and loved. I liked most of his jokes and loved him when he was pained.
I'm going to miss my friend, but I take great consolation in knowing that I will see him again. And given George's abundant personality, I wonder how he replied when he heard the Lord say Welcome home my good and faithful servant.
Rest in Peace my dear friend.

Father George, Married my husband and me, baptized my children and renewed my parents vows. Fr. George has been and will always be a special part of my family. I heard from Fr. George a couple weeks ago - he said he would pray for my father who was sick. I knew something was wrong when I did not hear back from him after I sent updates.
A message from Fr. George was like getting a big hug. He was so warm, positive and happy. I will greatly miss my friend Fr. George. He was greeted by my dad when he arrived in Heaven, I'm sure of it!

I often think of Fr. Bergin, one of our favorite teachers at St. Clement High School in Medford, Massachusetts. He had a great sense of humor and often referred to us jokingly as "you rotten kids." He always kept us interested in his classes, stimulating great discussions, and always kept us laughing. One day, Fr. James Bergin substituted, calmly introducing himself as Fr. Bergin with no initial explanation, keeping a group of teenagers briefly stunned. The sense of humor definitely runs in the family. I remember his "Escape to Wisconsin" sticker on his briefcase. So sorry for your loss, Fr. James Bergin & all of your community. Enjoy Heaven, Fr. George Bergin, & keep them laughing up there! God bless you always! Love, Mary O'Neill Kinler, St. Clement High School, Class of 1983

I have such wonderful memories of Fr. Bergin from his days at St. Clement School. Rest in eternal peace Father.

February 10, 2018

Dear Father Jim,

No words can convey our sadness for your loss. No two brothers could ever come close to the example of brotherly love than you and Father George. We can't think or pray for one without the other and that will never change for us.

We cherish our Wisconsin memories (bat and all). We felt the love between both of you and your Mom and we often pointed that out to Dave and Erin.

We know our Heavenly Father has welcomed him into His Kingdom where we one day will join him. At least that is what Father George's business card promised.

We love you Father Jim and join you in mourning a great priest and an amazing friend and your brother.

FB what can you say about a man who's heart was as big as he was.

He played such a role in the lives of myself & my parents.

He led their marriage encounter group, was there for the funeral of my grandmother & my dad, along with both my weddings.

Would always ask how "mom" was when he went home to visit. We were so sad when he told us that his "little" brother was pulling rank & bring him back west.

My favorite high school memories of him;
Magazine drive battling against Sistet Catherine for #1 position, especially the year there was George the Bear.

Then the sign at the front of his room, " contrary to popular opinion God's last name is not damn."

FB enjoy your visit with dad I'm sure he had a drink waiting for you.
