I just learned of Joan's passing and am so very sorry. I worked with her for several years. She was very dedicated and genuine. I have been corresponding with her since I retired in 1993 and will certainly miss her emails and letters. Her family was most important to her. I will miss a TRUE friend. Millie Sobottke

Joan told me one time she promised our father she would keep an eye on us when he was gone. She certainly did that. Joan never let me get away with not responding to her e-mails. She was kind in her persistence - reminding me to keep in touch with family by using "old" technologies (telephones) if the "new" technologies (e-mails) were too much for me.

I will miss her her matter-of-fact way of comforting others faced with life's challenges, and how she kept distant relatives in touch with her and with each other, despite the distance. I have packets of seeds Joan sent me, harvested from her garden. This Spring I will plant them...

Dear Milt, Mike, Steve, Laura and Gus, Joan was like a sister to my Dad (Bud). When he passed, she eased our aching hearts with stories and memories of growing up on the south side of Chicago. When Uncle Bob's illnesses started this past year, she was the strong one, providing sound advice with a dose of reality and compassion which was unmatched. We will miss her dearly and keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. Love alwasy, Bud's daughter Diane (kaczmarek)

Joan's passing brings about a great loss in our lives! She brought magic to those who knew her. I actually don't remember meeting her. However, I have the fondest memories of corresponding by letter with her. Her kindred spirit warmed my heart. We are going to miss Joan!!
