Joan Shannon Obituary
Joan H. Shannon, nee Brennan, age 90, longtime resident of Markham, IL passed away December 21, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Donald C. Shannon for 65 years. Loving mother of Donna (Philip) Gorman and Daniel (Sharon) Shannon. Dearest grandmother of Bryna (Chris) Shefferly and Heather (Chris) Wentzlaff. Cherished great-grandmother of Max and Genevieve. Fond aunt and cousin of many. She is survived by her sister Carol Singleton and sister-in-law Connie Akers; and was preceded in death by her brother Pat and sisters Eleanore and Dorothy. Joan was a librarian assistant for 32 years at both the McClaughry School in Markham and Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. She loved her family, making many friends, and reading. Joan will be greatly missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched. Visitation is Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the McKenzie Funeral Home, 15618 S. Cicero Avenue, Oak Forest, IL from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 6:30 p.m. Inurnment is Private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in Joan's name may be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org. For information: 708-687-2990.

I grew up in Markham with many, many wonderful neighbors, including Joan and her family. I loved her zest for books and great conversation! She was a lovely woman and will remain in my heart. Love to Donna, Dan and family.
