Jessie Hughen Obituary

JESSIE GWENDOLYN ANDERSON HUGHEN, 92, (Gwen) died Friday, July 12, 2002. Born April 3, 1910, in Chicago, Illinois to Charles Irving Anderson and Jessie Elizabeth Curnick Anderson, who preceded her death. She was the beloved wife of Thomas Alfred Hughen, who died April 28, 1992. They were married 51 years. She was also predeceased by their infant son, Mark. She was the loving mother to Thomas Alfred Hughen, Jr., Michele Ann Hughen Gurley and husband Derrel Gurley, Janis Hughen Bell and husband Richard Bell, Anita Hughen Butcher and husband James Butcher; grandmother to Dr. Diana Hughen Griffith and husband Dr. Johnn Griffith, Elizabeth Hughen Butcher and Leigh Erin Butcher; and great-grandmother to Johnny Griffith and Jordan Griffith. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Brogdon, brother-in-law, Richard Plotner, and sister-in-law, Doris Anderson and several nieces and nephews. Gwen was the oldest of six children and was predeceased by brothers, Richard I. Anderson, Hugh Anderson, Bennett B. Anderson and sister, Jane Plotner. Gwen Hughen was a brilliant, courageous and loving person. She met life's adversities with outstanding strength and enjoyed life to the fullest. Her family was most important to her. She attended Rice University and was employed by American Republics Corporation, where she met her husband, Tom Hughen. She was an administrator in his law practice and an active, supportive mother. After raising her four children, she returned to a career with Oil and Gas Futures. The family will be present to receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, 13001 Katy Freeway @ Eldridge, Houston, Texas, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2002 with Reverend Gene Gurley, officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15186, Austin, Texas 78761 or The Hospice at the Texas Medical Center, 1905 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, TX, 77030.
