Jerry Hamner Obituary

Jerry J. Hamner of Charlottesville died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at the University of Virginia Medical Center following an accident.

He was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on September 27, 1937. Mr. Hamner graduated from Albemarle High School in 1955 and served in the United States Army from March 1961 until February 1967.

Mr. Hamner was preceded in death by his parents, Marvine Bragg Hamner and Thomas Judson Hamner.

Mr. Hamner is survived by his daughter, Jerri Anne Arrington of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and a stepdaughter, Olivia Nicole Kober of Palmyra, Virginia. He is also survived by sisters, M. Dare Payne of Staunton, Virginia and Patricia A. Hamner of Earlysville, Virginia. There are two surviving grandchildren, Charles F. Sensel IV of Petersburg, Virginia and Samantha Leigh Sensel of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two step grandchildren, Jessie and Anthony Kober of Palmyra, Virginia; and two nephews, Travis and Jason Payne of Lake Monticello.

Mr. Hamner was a member of Cherry Avenue Christian Church, Charlottesville, Virginia; Masonic Lodge #55 of Alberene, Virginia; American Legion Post #74, Charlottesville, Virginia; and Loyal Order of the Moose #1028 of Charlottesville, Virginia.

Mr. Hamner's career centered around transportation. He was employed by Virginia Stage Lines/Trailways for 30 years and later retired from Charlottesville Transit after 12 years of service. Mr. Hamner had a vibrant personality that touched many lives and was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He also has two very special feline friends Jobe and Hobo who loved him dearly.

The family wish to thank the Neurosurgical ICU and 8th floor Palliative Care Staff of the University of Virginia Medical Center for all their medical care and support.

The family will receive family and friends from 6 until 8 p.m. at Cherry Avenue Christian Church on Tuesday April 18, 2006.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Cherry Avenue Christian Church with burial in the Scottsville Cemetery, Scottsville, Virginia.

Those who wish may send flowers or make a memorial contribution in Jerry's name to a charity of choice.

Hill and Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
