JEANNE SCHLINKERT Obituary

SCHLINKERT, JEANNE RYAN Jeanne Ryan Schlinkert (Mrs. Robert T.), 94, of Mountain Brook, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2012, following a brief illness. She was the eldest child of Thomas & Florence Ryan, born, raised & educated in Cincinnati, Ohio, a city she called home all of her life. She is preceded in death by two younger siblings, Thomas E. Ryan (Eileen Kattar) & Helen Lou Ryan (Mrs. Frank Brady). In her early career, Jeanne was employed in Cincinnati as a ticket agent for American Airlines where she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Schlinkert, who also worked for the Airlines in the sales division. They were married in Cincinnati on June 26, 1948, by Father Raymond Schlinkert, the groom's brother. The couple lived most of their 35 years of married life in Birmingham, Alabama, as Bob's career with Taft Broadcasting brought him to Birmingham as General Manager of WBRC/Channel 6 in 1957. Jeanne was an active member of Vestavia Country Club for many years and a Volunteer at St. Vincent's Hospital for more than ten years. In later years, Jeanne enjoyed her membership in "The Seasoned Performers", an actors group that performs short plays and skits for patients in nursing homes and other facilities. Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband, Bob, who passed away in 1983 and is survived by her three devoted children, Judith S. Toxey (George), Thomas R. Schlinkert (Christy) and Richard R. Schlinkert (Lane), granddaughter Natalie Reaves (Heath), plus many nieces & nephews of her extended family. Special mention is given to her surviving best friend, also name Jean, the quality of whose support and caring is beyond measure. The family would also like to give special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Mount Royal Towers for their loving care for Jeanne. Funeral for Mrs. Schlinkert will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Homewood, AL, with visitation from 9 AM-10 AM and the funeral Mass immediately following. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mrs. Schlinkert's alma mater, Ursuline Academy, Cincinnati, OH, www.ursulineacademy.org.
