Jean Scorsone Obituary

Scorsone, Jean

Jean Scorsone, 101, of Sandwich, IL passed away on May 4, 2022. Jean was born on March 4, 1921 in Chicago, IL to Charles and Lena (Geraci) Scorsone. (deceased) This picture of Jean is current! All that knew her were convinced that her youthful look was a perfect reflection of her young heart, mind and spirit. Jean, or Auntie Jean as she was known to many, was always a friend, mentor, listening ear, sage advice giver, creative artist, and musician. AJ, as some called her, grew up on Aberdeen, in a friendly Italian neighborhood in Chicago. After realizing she had talent as an artist, her feisty Mama, Lena, was instrumental in getting her accepted at the young age of 17 into the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Following her formal training, Jean became a commercial artist for the Chicago Sun-Times for 25 years. She also enjoyed living in New Mexico and Arizona. In her later years, she found her heart was still in the Midwest. In her final years, Jean, always the city girl, found peace in living with her family in Sandwich, IL. She always said the charm and tranquility of Sandwich, reminded her of Roswell, NM where she, in her 20's, spent many treasured days on a dude ranch with her artist friends. Jean was an accomplished musician mastering the piano, organ and electric keyboard. In the 40's she entertained audiences in piano bars in Chicago and later delighted the residents at the Brookdale of Hoffman Estates with a repertoire of hundreds of special songs that she played by ear, always perfectly chosen for each special friend. Jean is survived by her niece, Gloriann Scorsone Harris (Burton, deceased) nephew, Vincent Scorsone Jr. (Maureen) and niece Patty Lynn Scorsone Steffens (Todd) and many great, great-great and great-great great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister, Josephine (Scorsone) DiCarlo, and husband, Tony, and by her brother, Vincent Scorsone Sr. (Claire Serritella). Everyone loved Jean, whether a receptionist in an office, her many nieces and nephews or a myriad of very many friends, and subsequent children of those friends, because she truly loved them all. Whoever witnessed her sassy ways or delighted in her many talents will remember Jean, from Aberdeen, forever. Visitation at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 5 th at St. Alphonsus Ligouri Catholic Church, 411 N. Wheeling Road, Prospect Heights, IL. Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Caramel Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Road, Hillside, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fox Valley Community Services, 1406 Suydam Road, IL www.fvoas.org Cremation rites were accorded.
