Mrs. Jahnke was my second grade teacher at Indian Hill School (she also taught my brother and sister). Her first day was also my first day. On that very first day she held up a new science text book we were to be using and proceeded to lead a lively class discussion about the cover. There was a butterfly emerging from its cocoon with a picture of milk weed behind it. I had been a city girl and Mrs. Jahnke's enthusiasm for the natural world and its plant life made a deep impression. After that I hunted through our suburban "prairies" for milk weed and found it...what joy! I became a teacher and a gardener myself (albeit not a master gardener!) and I can look back with deep appreciation on the positive impact Mrs. Jean Jahnke had on my life.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Jean. I've know Jean as a very dedicated Master Gardener for the last eight years. She loved sharing her knowledge and love of plants. She will be sorely missed.
