To the Wertheimer Family,

I wish to extend my condolences to you on the passing of one the nicest people I have met in my 17 years in the business world. He knew how to take care of his customers and it was always a pleasure to have him stop by and visit. I also know he was a great family man as our conversations usually centered around our families and of course some sports and oh ya a little business too. I know his legacy will live on through his family and business. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

News of Jay’s passing seems to have transversed all across the country. I knew Jay many years ago as we both went to school together at Rodgers Elementary and continuing on at Sullivan HS. My remembrances of him are quite fond. Jay was a very funny, witty young man in high school and was well liked by those who knew him. He was a good friend to me. Sadly, our paths drifted apart as they so often do when you move away and we lost contact. My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with you all. He will be deeply missed.

December 2, 2004

Jay was always one of my favorite hockey parents and business vendors. He was always so enthusiastic! After hockey conversations, he would counsel me about my impending nuptials and he would refer to his marriage and family glowingly. Whenever he came for a sales call, he brightened the entire office with jokes and stories about the family. We would talk business for all of about 30 seconds.

Every funeral talks about how nice of a person he or she was and sometimes that is a bit of an exaggeration, but in the case of Jay he was the genuine article. I looked up to him as a vendor, as a mentor and most importantly as a friend. I will miss him and I will never forget him.

Jennifer:

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time. When I think of Jay, I will remember his integrity, his genuine kindness, his zest for life, his smile, his love for his family. He was so proud of his children; he spoke often of them and their various life events. Jennifer, you were his world. He spoke of you with love and pride (of course he threw a little teasing in there as well!) It was a privilege to have known him. I will dearly miss him.

To all of the friends and family of Jay,

Jay was one warmest, friendliest and most optimistic people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

In a time like this sometimes a little humor helps.... My first encounter with Jay was almost 20 years ago at an AICC meeting in Boca Raton Florida. We were at the lounge in the hotel with a group of people..we all may have had a few cocktails, when an old school friend of mine came to meet us. He introduced himself, at which time Jay asked him "what do you do" his reply was "i'm in the fish business".... Jay proceeded to flap his hand back and forth on the table like a fish out of water and said " i'll bet your business stinks". Everyone laughed for quite a while. Since that time every time I saw Jay we did the hand flap and laughed.

I hope that in the comming days, friends and family can share stories of love and laughter for and about Jay... God bless you Jay.. you were a real mensch!!
