Jay Newkirk Obituary
61, of the Timber Pines Community in Spring Hill, FL, and from Elmira, NY, died unexpectedly at home on Friday, November 13, 2009. He is the son of Lee and Francis Newkirk of Elmira, NY. He is predeceased by his father-in-law, Orman W. Avery. Jay is survived by his loving wife and sweetheart of 22 years, Christine M. Newkirk; daughter, Patricia Maple (Scott) of Virginia; and his cherished, beloved grandchildren that he was so proud of, Joshua, Brooke, Nathan, and Trevor; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Avery of Cary, NC; brother and sisters-in-law, Guy Newkirk, Ron and Mary Newkirk, TJ and Mary Malone, John and Cathy Avery, Kathy Avery, Joe and Karen Avery, James Avery, David and Elizabeth Avery, Orman Avery, Jr.; his buddy, KC; and many nieces and nephews. Jay was a graduate of Elmira Southside High School and Bryant & Statton College. He recently retired from the Ithaca Carpenters Union and Cornell University. He was in Florida working on their home and enjoying the sport of golf. He loved being a carpenter and doing things to help others; he deeply touched so many people. Jesus was a carpenter, and I guess he was summoned to help. Memorial services are to be held at a later date.

So sorry to hear about Jay's passing.
Jay was always someone that was willing to help. We worked many jobs together over the years both at Ridgeline and Cornell. Even at your home when when we did the counters. Jay was a friend will be missed by all of his friends.
