Ineke van Mourik
January 17, 2024
Dear family Stern,
First my sincere condolances with you mother's passing away. Probably you don't know who I am so let me first introduce myself. My name is Ineke van Mourik, and I am from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In 1969 I spent a week at your parents house (this was part of my stay as a counselor during the summer in Maine at Camp Bendito) while making a tour after camp. I have very good memories about my stay: we read Herman Hesse and talked all the time about all kinds of topics and literature. Janet took me to her reading classes and also made it possible for me to stay longer than two days. I always cherish this memory but I forgot her familyname. Until today. I was busy with my personal archive when I found a Chagallcard (Happy Holidays) from Janet with all your names on it. When I searched the internet I just discovered the obituary. It makes me sad to realise that I cannot contact her, but it is a kind of solace that I can tell you, her children, how that visit was become an important part of my life. Your parents really saw me and showed me the beauty of many things in life.
I think of you all in this moment of sadness and wish you much strength.
Love, Ineke van Mourik (my nickname is Daniel)

Janets' husband Charles and my husband were law partners at Holleb &Koff
law firm. The mutual respect they had for each other was clear to all.
In addition Janet was the leader for my book club. She was the best! and no one ever was able to surpass her ability to teach and inspire us!

Janet touched so many lives and enriched the people who studied with her. Her life was a blessing and I was privileged to be her friend.
