I was one of Jim's students in at Brown in 1970. As a professor he was inspirational because he commanded the abstract and theoretical, yet put it into real-world context that made it "important to learn this stuff". As a student who grew up in the Chicago area, I had a special bond with him and he provided an example that we from the old sod could go on and do well in this ivy-league world. At a very young age when I needed role models, Jim was a great one. I'm so sad to hear of his passing and offer my deep regrets to the Vanecko family.

Fr. Bill & family, please accept our sincerest prayers. Chuck & I view a loved one's death as their birthday into heaven and it's just a matter of time until we are all there celebrating with them again. May the Lord continue to bless you all.

Dear Fr. Bill, my sympathies extend to you, too, of course -- my fingers went faster than my brain and I inadvertently left you out of the family in my previous entry.

I just learned of the death of Jim Vanecko. I am saddened. Jim was always a gentleman. The entire Vanecko family was always gracious and a class act. I was lucky enough to grow up a half a block away and spent many happy hours in their home on Hopkins Pl. I shall remember Jim fondly as well as the Vanecko family. They will always be in my heart and my prayers.

As I remember, "Jimmy Joe" was the youngest of four boys, a peppy kid from a generous family. The Vanecko home was always open to those of us in the Beverly neighborhood in the early 1950s. My sympathy to his family and to his brothers. E.Dennis Murphy
