To the Pappas family
I grew up with Jimmy, went to clay school together. We were in almost every grade together. We were on the Giants together in little league. He was a great friend and great sense of humor. Very sorry for your lose.RIP JIMMY

As the days pass, routines continue, the soothing voice of friendship & commoninality is silent. Yet, hope rises on each new cell phone ring with the thought that my old friend Jim may be calling from a very long distance. This keeps smiles anew and all is just "peachy".

I never met Jimmy but my husband, Xavier, spoke with him nearly every day, and sometimes several times a day. Just last week I told him I miss those phone calls. Testament to a wonderful human being. His joy for life cannot be suppressed, still. I cannot imagine a better legacy. Nor can I imagine your sorrow. He lives in the hearts of those he never met, I'm imagining he's no less present in yours.

Dear Linda, Erik and Steven and to Tom, George, Bill and Diane,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss and ours. Jim was a very good friend and he will be forever missed but never forgotten. I've known Jim since 1st grade and he has always been a fun loving, funny and kind person. I always looked forward to seeing him at the annual Christmas party and watching him haul in all the prizes. He was certainly a winner with everything especially with family and life. May he rest in peace. Please accept our deepest sympathies. We will cherish all of our fond memories.

With heartfelt condolences, Jimmy and I were very good friends as kids growing up in Hegewisch. Even after my family the Syler's moved to Cal City, and then Crete, I was able to keep in touch with Jimmy through his Uncle Jimmy, my father Jim Syler's best friend. Since both have since passed, I hold their memory very dear to me, as well as Jimmy's. I have many great memories of us runnin''round the fields-n-swamps 'across the tracks' from Avalon Trails by his house, and of having fun at school together at Henry Clay. For those that grieve as I do, I pray for a Peace that surpasses all understanding for his family and other friends. Thank you for your friendship Jimmy, I am grateful to have have known you as my friend. Jimmy Syler

My husband and Jimmy spoke daily, and I always hoped I'd be able to grab the phone before Xavier. Such a happy spirit, his joy tumbled through the phone lines. I simply can't believe it could be extinguished so quickly. Keeping all that joy and love alive would be his greatest legacy.
