Mary Ellen, Maura, Shannon and Jimmy: When someone passes, I always like to share a story with their loved ones as to how they touched my life. The huge send off crowd at McGann's did not really allow for it. I share with you now. Way back in the day when we were mere adolescents, I "heard it through the grapevine" that Jim "liked" me. This was at that time in my young girl's life when I didn't even think any boy would or could "like" me. It was obviously quite meaningful to me since I still remember that. I wonder how that little bit of news may have shaped or changed me and my perception of myself. One of my fondest memories of him was also my first ride on the Parchute Ride at Riverview Park where we all went after grade school graduation. We rode together and he did everything possible to have me scared out of my wits as we waited for that moment when the parachute finally opens and you safely arrive back on the ground. (try to check out a video of that ride and think of him enjoying many giggles at my expense!) Though Ifeared death that ride, we lived to tell the tale, and each went on to have three wonderful children. While, we didn't keep in close contact over the years, the V-Bond was formed long ago and remains. And when we did connect, he always expressed deep love and pride for his children. My heart aches for his family and friends. He was a great, fun guy, our memory-keeper with all the details. I'm sure he didn't remember any of this silly stuff, but I do and I hope that you can add it to your list of how special he was to so many. JoAnn Margarella Bendik class of 62"

Dear Peggy, Maura, Shannon, and Jim, The wake last night, with about 1,000 people, was a tremendous show of love and respect for Jim and your family. I looked at all the photos and Jim was smiling in all of them! He made our lives better with his love and humor. I will miss his simple greeting to me "hi Pud"and a hug. It is comforting think like Peggy and believe that his dad, mom and grandma came down to take him to heaven. He's in good company.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss! I just heard of your dad's passing tonight and regret that I was not able to attend the services. Mr. O'Neill was such a great guy! I will always remember all the times I spent with your family growing up and how much fun your dad was. He made me love the game of basketball! I will always remember all the nicknames he had for everyone and his personality! I know that this is a hard time for all of you and how hard it is to lose a parent but know he is in a better place looking over you now! Shannon I am here if you want to talk, I understand what you are going through. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family!

Dear O'Neill Family, (my buddy, 'Lester') ~ My heart goes out to your family at this time of deep sorrow. Jim was the center of all good cheer and he was always the coolest guy on the Boulevard - (55th St./Visitation). Jim was older than I, and hung out with an older crowd, but always made me feel accepted. I will miss him dearly, as will all who knew him. I'm sure he is the best-dressed man in heaven. Love, Mario Palaggi
