Dear Shawn & Langan Family-

I am deeply saddened to learn of your father's death and troubled that I was not able to attend his wake. When I returned to work on Tuesday I went into the old Sears Fries/Walters office, where the three of us shared many good times together, and I observed a moment of silence. You know how I felt about your father Shawn: he was my work dad, my friend and coworker…we looked after each other dating back to 1987. In many ways, your father helped shape me professionally -- and for that I am truly grateful. Since you guys left the Sears Tower, I have missed the company of the Langan Team, but now the sense of finality hurts even more of course. I will miss running into your father, recently in fact, in the Sears bookstore. We had a good laugh that day and looking back on it…I am thankful fate gave us that opportunity to connect.
Please accept my condolences and know that I share in your pain and will always keep your father's memory alive…

Warmest Regards,
Mike Biede

Dear Maureen and Family~
We want to send our deepest sympathy to you as you mourn the loss of JE. My heart was always so warmed when I saw JE as a grandpa. It was so obvious that he loved his grandchildren dearly. I know that you'll always share that with each of them. They'll be so proud to have had such a loving grandfather. What a legacy he's left behind.

Maureen Langan & Family:

My deepest sympathy on the loss of Jim. I was shocked to hear of his passing as I had just found out last week that he was ill. Jim was our electrician for many years at CRT/NationsBanc-CRT/Bank of America (440 LaSalle and Sears Tower). He was my buddy, a fellow Irishman, and I will miss him dearly. Jim used to let me hide out in the electricians room to sneak a smoke. Every time I saw him, he greeted me with "Uh, oh, here comes trouble" and he always spoke so fondly of HIS Maureen.

I am extremely sad to have learned of his passing this morning when I arrived at the office. He was taken way too soon and I certainly don't understand "the plan" when someone as hard working as Jim doesn't live long enough to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers and that Jim will always be remembered fondly by those of us who were blessed to have known and worked with him.

To Jim Langan Family with a special note for Shawn - I am terribly saddened to hear about Jim and want you to know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. It was such a joy for me to get to know Shawn and Jim in our offices at Bank of America. Their relationship was always professional while at work, but their love and concern for each other was always there where you could see it and feel it and be touched by it. Jim had a smile and a kind word whenever our paths crossed and I am happy to have had the opportunity to know him.

Maureen & family, Dan, Mark, Phil & Aunt Bea,

Our hearts are broken along with yours at the passing of JE. I cannot fully believe it, so fast and over. We have been praying the rosary for the last few weeks as a family at home and our hope was high as was yours. Little did we know God's will. We all must accept that now and move forward.....very tough, but one day at a time and alot of prayer.

I have 2 fond memories of JE. One was his frequent visits to Sangamon Street to have a cup of tea with Aunt Chick after working all day as an electrician.

The other was his being my Confirmation Sponsor; I was in 4th grade; I was probably 10 yrs old. It never occurred to me until now that JE was 20 yrs old at my confirmation; a 10 year difference between us.

Please accept our sympathies during this difficult time. You are all in our prayers.

All our love & prayers,
Tom, Mavis and Family
