James Higgins Obituary

Higgins, James Robert

Jim, age 62, passed away peacefully due to complications following heart surgery on February 5th, 2021 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife/soul mate of 33 years, Cheryl, his sons J.R. (Elyse) and Ben (Nicole), and daughter Meghan (Jorge). Beloved "Pop" to his granddaughter Kacey. Loving brother and brother-in-law to his siblings Linda (Mac), Dan (Kathy), his Irish twin Bob (Kim), and Laura (Sergio). Fun crazy uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Anna Marie Higgins, whom he loved deeply. Anyone that knew Jim also knows he was quick with a joke, quick to make a friend, and quick to help anyone who asked. A lifelong fan of the Reavis Rams, White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks at whose games many memories were made. His family would like to thank Loyola Medical Center for the wonderful care they provided. In particular they would like to thank Dr. Patrick Stiff who was Jim's oncologist for roughly 20 years and whom Jim considered a friend. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in Jim Higgins' name to either the Reavis High School Education Foundation or the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center at Loyola. Due to Covid restrictions a celebration of life for family and friends will be planned at a later date.

Jim was a great person and loved by everyone. I've been friends with Jim and Cheryl for many years, and Cheryl was my neighbor. I also worked with Jim at Burbank School. I was a teacher and he was a bus driver so I saw him everyday. He was so friendly to everyone, and everybody loved him. God Bless You My Friend Jim, and R.I.P. I'm So Sorry for Your Loss Cheryl.

Jim, I remember you on the hardwood, you were a scrappy basketball player and gave all you had on the court. Sounds like you did the same in life after Reavis. RIP and God Speed my fellow Ram.
