Mr. Dillion was a leader and mentor to me when I worked as a Private Investigator for his detective agency in 1986-1987. Jim motivated me to seek a career in law enforcement/security and encouraged me to seek advanced education.
I’m for ever grateful for Jim and the time he took to develop me.
Godspeed Mr. Dillion.

May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

I seriously doubt words can ever express Jim's impact on SPD. When I was hired in 1974 I was one of the first on the department with a BS in Law Enforcement Administration. Combined with the police academy and an excellent FTO I felt I had a broad knowledge base. Jim continually showed me things I never saw before on subjects ranging form knowledge & application of law, and department policy. His investigative expertise, especially at death investigations often left me speechless. Jim was a very close second to Marty Conroy himself
Gone, but never forgotten. RIP "10-1"

I am so sorry to hear of Jims passing but I am sure he is in a better place now! I started working with Jim at SPD in 1975 until his retirement in 1985. As a former Chicago cop, and being a fellow Irishman, I felt an instant bond with Jim. He worked hard and laughed easily. He played a huge role in the early development and legacy of SPD. He was a model of honor and integrity. He was very proud of his family and spoke of his children often. My sincerest condolences to Jims family.

My condolances to Jims Family. I worked with Jim and I always respected his service to the Shaumburg Police Dept and his dedication toward law enforcement. I will always remember the serious moments working with him as well as his wit and humor in the not so serious moments

Jim Dillon was a cop's cop. He came from a family that valued public service as his father was a Chicago Fireman. He was a role model for me and always warned me about the pitfalls and temptations of being a police. Jim, who was my uncle, helped my career and supported me in all of my endeavors. His children, Jimmy and Debbie, followed his example and also have had distinguished careers in law enforcement. We will miss you Uncle Jim.
