Dear Charliene and the entire Bollin family,

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, father-in-law, uncle, and to his many friends. It was apparent with so many officers, both active and retired attending his wake, that they not only showed respect of Jim as an officer of the Chicago Police Department, but as our friend. There is a certain bond that we as officers only know. Jim was an integral part of that bond. Might I also apologize for us as a group, if we congregated to mourn Jim's passing, and may have made it difficult to enter or exit the wake. I was in awe at those who wanted to show their support to you, and I am forever grateful for their attendance. Jim was one of the best!

Dad I miss you deeply. It is amazing how many people's lives you have touched. I know I never said it out loud cause I know how much you loved the soft side of me but you where a great Dad and I love you very much. I can only hope I could be half the husband and Dad you were.I still don't believe this to be real and I will never understand it but I Dad you will always be alive strong in my heart.I miss you and I love you and I will make sure everything here will be taken care of.

i considered jim my best friend growing up. He booted me out of bed every morning and i probably wouldn't of gotten through high school without him. He was smart , fun, and always a joy to be around. Years later i would run into jim in court when i was a young states attorney. He was a great policeman, tough, but always willing to give a kid a break. i can only imagine what a great father and grandfather he was. God bless, Jim. Say hi to our buddy Tom when you get home.
