James Batzek Obituary

My heart is broken to know that my buddy is no longer with us. I pray you are at peace. You were a good friend and we shared a lot of laughs together. You will always be in my heart and I will never forget you.

Jim was an inspiration to me from the day we meet. We worked together on so many projects at EPA and he was always up for a challenge. In fact, I still use some of his programming code. While it has been many years since I last saw him, he will always live on in my memory as a person who never quit.

Jim's incredibly upbeat attitude, sharp wit, boundless sense of humor, diligence, knowledge, skills and wisdom will be sorely missed at the Environmental Protection Agency. I've met him in person only three times: Once for a couple of hours at a restaurant, celebrating completion of a big project; two times briefly in a hallway. We were "virtual" friends, using computers for texting, web conferencing and talking on the phone quite intensely working closely, as we were solving problems. He was looking forward to us getting a new set of computer tools coming this month that would allow us to create wonderfully helpful applications for our coworkers. My wife has heard all the stories of our work and bantering and was saddened to hear that Jim unexpectedly and suddenly left for Heaven. I miss him already. God rest his soul and provide comfort to his family and friends. “His lord said unto him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant'.” - Matthew 25:23

Jim was a wonderful person, generous to a fault. He is an inspiration to all. In the face of constant challenges he remained hopeful, upbeat and full of promise. Jim will be missed.

My deepest Sympathy goes out to the Batzek family. I knew you as Jimmy back in the 60's and 70's. I always remember your smile.

An old friend from the neighborhood on 93rd Chappel. I remember Jimmy as a young boy and the rest of the family. You were great friends of the Velasquez family. Rest in Peace Jim.

May he rest in peace. A wonderful guy and friend whom I have known my whole life. I love you and will miss you.

The Grace and Diginity in which Jim accepted his fate after his fall was second to none. He has been my inspiration through all these years, my friend, and an extremely funny guy. He was one of my most favorite people and I am glad I got tell him that.

God Bless his soul and may God wrap his loving arms around his family and friends as they grieve their loss and celebrate the Blessing that Jim was.

Jimmy was someone to look up to with everything he was able to accomplish. His spirit and sense of humor is something I'll always remember. It's hard to think of a time I saw him that he wasn't smiling.

I will never forget driving the Batzek mobile down Lower Wacker after seeing the Blues Brothers. I had never drove on Lower Wacker before and I didn't want to say I was not comfortable driving down Lower Wacker. We survived that night and a bunch of other good nights so long ago. After I heard of Jim's passing, I couldn't believe it's already been over twelve yeas since I had actually seen him. Facebook is nice because we were connected there.

Rest in Peace Jim, It was an honor to know you. We met at Dirksen Junior High, then on to Thornwood we went. You were a wild and crazy guy who always made us laugh. When life dealt you a bad hand you taught us that anything is possile You have touched and inspired so many lives. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!

Jim was always making me laugh & putting a smile on my face, I have such great memories with him & of him. Jim you'll be truely missed. But never forgotten. My thoughts & prayers are with his family & friends at this time & always.

Batzek Family, I am so terribly sorry for you loss. I have taken care of Jim since I first met him at Regency, then St. Margaret's. I have always enjoyed taking care of him and visiting with him. Such an inspiration, intelligent, caring, funny man with a zest for life. I will miss him very much. Your family will always be in my prayers.

Jim's spirit, pride and sense of humor came naturally. He was so much fun to be with. He inspired me and everyone whoever knew him. Jimmy is forever in our hearts. So proud to be family.
